Silver Star Program

“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.”

Proverbs 21:13

The Silver Star Program is a ministry of priority for New Vision Community Church. Friday morning of every week since April, 2009, we have opened our doors to provide food for the elderly. Many of the seniors in our community are on a fixed income and often have to choose between buying food or buying their prescriptions. Our program hopes to ease that burden a little bit.

Each Friday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, we cater to the needs of ” los abuelos y los padres.” By serving a light breakfast and lunch we want them to know we love and honor them; letting them know they are a respected and appreciated part of our community.

Every person participating in the program is issued a non-transferable ID punch card which entitles them to one bag of food and hygiene necessities a month, such as adult diapers, waterproof pads, vitamins and reading glasses. Various times a year, on the third Friday of the month they are welcome to come back to our monthly “Senior Citizens Health Fair.” During the fair many agencies  serving  the elderly  gather in our building to provide glucose check, blood pressure measurement, etc.

Anyone over 60 with a photo ID is eligible for the Silver Star Program. However, we do ask that if you are a senior and have a comfortable income or have substantial help from your loved ones, that you leave this for our seniors that are in greatest need. For more information you may contact the church at 956-712-0655. If you know of any Senior Citizen in need please let us know.
